Netflix of the Week

To be honest, I couldn't finish this movie. It made me extremely uncomfortable. The basic idea of the movie is that Cindy (Michelle Williams) and Dean (Ryan Gosling) fall head over heels in love, get married, raise a child, lose their dog, and now they don't really like each other. The cinematography is nice and I like Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, but the film was very hard to watch. I really wanted to like this movie, but I ended up feeling like I was watching something that I shouldn't be - someone else's private family moments, like when you're at a friend's house and their parents argue. It probably deserves the good reviews and attention that it's gotten, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

My rating: 3/5

If you've seen Blue Valentine, what did you think? What movies have you watched recently?

  1. I LOVED the movie...not because it was a happy ending, or sad ending, or a messed up story, but because it was real. Marriages/couples go through stuff like this every-single-day and to finally film a story that happens to so many people, but is something that many never talk about is enlightening to me. To me, the story was in a way beautiful to me. Two people that fall in love SO hard, get married, have a child (which isnt really his child) but he loves her as his own, (because of love) and then lose touch with each other because life gets in the way,...and then realize they can no longer be together to me is interesting. At the end I really thought they were still deeply in love, but had to do what was right for their kid.

that was a mess. are you picking up what im putting down?

  2. @Jenn, I'm smelling what you're stepping in!
I can definitely see WHY it was reviewed positively, but like I said, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Relationships are messy and hard work, but.. I don't know, seeing the guts of someone else's relationship (even a fictional one) just made me uncomfortable.
